About

Mary T. Imboden, PhD, is a Research Scientist in the Center for Cardiovascular Analytics, Research, and Data Science (CARDS) in the Providence Heart Institute. Dr. Imboden joined CARDS in 2024 to help design, initiate, and manage research activities within the Providence Heart Institute. Her personal research interests include advancing lifestyle as medicine in the prevention, treatment, and reversal of chronic disease, social determinants of health, healthcare disparities, and understanding the patient experience.

Prior to her role in CARDS, Dr. Mary Imboden was the Director of Research at the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO), a nonprofit focused on advancing workforce health and well-being. In this role, she managed the HERO Scorecard and the HERO Worker Well-Being Clearinghouse, Powered by the NIOSH WellBQ. She also served as the Chair of the Kinesiology Department at George Fox University (GFU). Mary is an adjunct professor in GFU’s physical therapy graduate program, as well as in the Healthy Lifestyle Practitioner program at the University of Illinois Chicago. She currently is a co-editor of the Knowing Well, Being Well section of the American Journal of Health Promotion and is involved in several local and national committees, including the Physical Activity Policy Research and Evaluation Network (PAPREN) and the Wellbeing Think Tank. Dr. Imboden obtained her PhD in Human Bioenergetics from Ball State University’s Human Performance Lab and her Master’s degree in Health and Exercise Science from Wake Forest University.
