About
As a nurse, Sarah E. Johnson has been working to support healthy people, communities, and planetary health for over 10 years. Drawing from a background in sustainable agriculture and integrative medicine, Sarah works within Providence St. Patrick Hospital and the Montana region to educate and engage staff, patients, and community members on environmental stewardship in healthcare. She co-founded the G4G Shared Governance Council in 2018 at Providence St. Patrick hospital, where she continues to lead healthcare decarbonization alongside clinicians and caregivers throughout the Montana region. She has led and participated in multiple research and quality improvement projects aimed at quantifying and reducing healthcare’s impact on the environment, which includes the introduction and exploration of Nurse Sensitive Environmental Indicators.
Sarah serves as a Board Member for the Missoula Food Bank and Community Center and the Stevensville Harvest Valley Farmer’s Market. She is also active on the local Wildfire, Smoke, and heat council hosted by Climate Smart Missoula, the Western Montana Food Access Committee hosted by Community Food and Agriculture Coalition, and the Education and Advocacy Council hosted by the Missoula Food Band and Community Center. She has been a guest lecturer for the nursing programs at both the University of Montana and North Idaho College on the topic of environmental stewardship, nursing, and healthcare. Sarah also owns and operates a small family farm in Florence, Montana with her husband and children that is dedicated to building soil health, conserving resources, and expanding local food options for her community.
