Abstract

Although uncommon in comparison to other gastrointestinal malignancies, the poor long-term outcomes associated with small intestine adenocarcinoma cause a large burden on healthcare today. Despite advances in other sites, the exact biologic behavior of duodenal, jejunal, and ileal adenocarcinoma remains poorly understood and is reflected by the lack of consensus on optimal treatment strategies. A thorough understanding of the risk factors, clinical presentation, and methods of diagnosis is paramount to establish an early diagnosis, which provides the best chance for long-term meaningful survival.
