Abstract
Fatigue is a debilitating symptom of central and peripheral nervous system disease. Fatigue has subjective and objective components, involving all aspects of the nervous system. Patients with neurodegenerative diseases experience fatigue, central and peripheral in origin. Central fatigue derives from brain and spinal cord. Peripheral fatigues stems from peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junction, and muscle itself, including cellular components. The physiology of fatigue is reviewed in this article. Various methods to measure and quantify fatigue are then discussed.
