Optimizing terminal care

The thesis of this article is that death is natural and that it is sometimes appropriate to let death come - neither to hurry nor to forestall it. What is inappropriate is to abandon the dying patient, as if simply because we cannot cure him, he is no longer in need of our care. The solution to the problem of terminal care lies in being honest and unashamed about the inevitability of death, and in realizing that there is genuinely much to be done in terms of care long after we can reasonably hope for a cure.
