Position paper: ASNR scientific issues committee 1995

The Scientific Issues Committee was formed in 1995. Participating were Mindy Aisen, M.D. (Chair), Michael Rosen, Ph.D., Steven Sparr, M.D., Barbara Giesser, M.D., Laurie Laven, M.D., Laura Lennihan, M.D., and Thomas Wessel, M.D. As a newly formed committee, we explored means by which we could most effectively contribute to the ASNR. We determined that it is necessary to promote an awareness of the importance of scientific scholarship, enhance the communication of research ideas, and identify obstacles to neurorehabilitation research advancement. To meet these goals, we are prepared to collaborate with the members of other ASNR committees to assist in preparing educational materials and assembling scientific programs. We are also considering conducting a survey of the ASNR membership to identify public policies that inhibit or promote scientific research in neurorehabilitation. Our major activity this year was the drafting of a Position Paper, which we hope reflects the specific vision of the ASNR membership. Our purpose was to identify priorities for scientific study and articulate the unique contribution neurorehabilitation can make.
