Abstract

Upper cervical spine (occiput-C2) and spinal cord injuries constitute a unique subset of traumatic spine injuries, with enough fundamental differences from the subaxial cervical spine to merit separate consideration. We review the unique anatomy of the region, diagnostic considerations, unique features of upper cervical spinal cord injury, and treatment considerations.
