Akanksha Sharma, MD, is triple board certified in neurology, neuro-oncology and hospice/palliative medicine. She completed residency training at the University of Washington, where she was chief resident, followed by fellowship training at Mayo Clinic Arizona and the University of Washington. She is currently a neurologist and neuro-oncologist at the Pacific Neuroscience Institute group in Santa Monica, CA, working at the Providence Saint John's Cancer Center, and is an Assistant Professor of Neurosciences at the Saint John's Cancer Institute (previously John Wayne). In her role, she treats primary and secondary brain tumors, neurological complications of cancer and chemotherapy, and focuses on alleviating disease and treatment related symptoms in patients. Her clinical and research interests lie in helping patients maximize quality and quantity of life and in developing interventions aimed to alleviate the stress and trauma experienced by the care partners. To this end, she serves as primary site investigator for a number of industry sponsored interventional drug trials, and is conducting a number of investigator initiated studies on treating patient symptoms, reducing care partner burden and distress, and evaluating patient-reported outcomes.
